Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 30, 2026
This policy explains what ChikaBebe does with your personal information, in plain language. If anything here is unclear, please write to us and ask. We would rather explain it than have you guess.
The short version
- We use Google Analytics only if you agree to it. Nothing is measured and nothing reaches Google until you press Accept on the cookie banner, and you can withdraw that at any time from any page.
- We do not run advertising, tracking pixels, social media widgets, or any third-party scripts that watch you.
- We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never will.
- Three essential cookies keep you signed in, remember your language, and record the cookie choice you made. The only other cookies on this site are the two Google Analytics sets, and only if you said yes.
- Our fonts are hosted on our own servers, so no font provider ever sees your IP address.
- You can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account entirely, from your account page at any time. You do not have to email anyone or wait for a reply.
Who we are
ChikaBebe is a parenting education service operated from Sacramento, California, USA. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, ChikaBebe is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at the email address at the bottom of this page, and we will provide a postal address on request.
What we collect, and why we are allowed to
We only collect what the service actually needs. Here is every category, what it is for, and the legal basis we rely on.
- Your email address, when you create an account, buy something, join the newsletter, take the survey, or write to us. Used to sign you in, deliver what you bought, and reply to you. Basis: performance of a contract, and your consent for the newsletter.
- Your name, if you choose to give one. Used to greet you and to sign your comments. Basis: your consent. It is optional.
- Purchase records: what you bought, when, how much, and the Stripe reference. Used to give you access and to keep our books. Basis: performance of a contract, and our legal obligation to keep tax records.
- Your workbook answers, saved reflections, and progress. Stored so they follow you from your phone to your laptop. Basis: performance of a contract. Only you and the site owner can read them.
- Comments you post. Visible to other members. Basis: your consent, given by posting.
- Survey answers, if you take the survey. Used to understand what parents need. Basis: your consent.
- Coaching bookings, including any note you write when booking. Used to arrange your session. Basis: performance of a contract.
- Analytics data, only if you consent: which page was opened, when, roughly which country or city it was opened from, and which page or search led you there. Collected by Google Analytics on our behalf. It is not linked to your account and we never send your name, your email address or anything you write in the workbook. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Your IP address, briefly, to stop spam and abuse of our forms and sign-in emails. It is converted into an unreadable code before it is stored, and it expires within an hour. Basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and not letting anyone use it to flood a stranger's inbox.
What we deliberately do not do
This section exists because it is the part people most want to know, and because a promise you can check is worth more than one you cannot.
- No analytics unless you asked for it. If you press Reject, or simply never answer the banner, no measurement script is loaded, no analytics cookie is written, and no request is made to Google at all.
- No advertising, and no advertising cookies. ChikaBebe does not carry ads and does not build a profile of you for anyone else to advertise against.
- No tracking pixels, no Facebook pixel, no social sharing widgets that phone home.
- No third-party fonts. Fonts are served from our own servers, which means Google never receives your IP address. Websites that load fonts from Google send a visitor's IP to Google on every page load, without a cookie and without asking. We do not.
- No selling your data, no sharing it for anyone else's marketing, and no cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined in California law.
Cookies and things stored on your device
We set three essential cookies: one that keeps you signed in, one that remembers which language you chose, and one that records the choice you made about analytics. If you consent to analytics, Google Analytics sets two more. Nothing optional is loaded before you choose, and you can change your answer from the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. Your browser also stores your workbook answers and your place in a video locally on your own device, so the site works if you go offline. See our Cookie Notice for the full list and the exact cookie names.
Who else handles your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that run parts of the service for us, under contract, and only to the extent they need it. They are:
- Stripe, which processes payments. Stripe receives your email and payment details. ChikaBebe never sees or stores your card number.
- Resend, which delivers our email. Resend receives your email address and the message we send you.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site, stores our data, and protects our forms from bots using Turnstile. Cloudflare Turnstile is a privacy-preserving alternative to reCAPTCHA and does not track you across websites.
- Google, which provides Google Analytics, and only for visitors who consented to it. Google processes this data for us under its data processing terms. We have turned off Google Signals and ad personalisation, so this data is not added to Google advertising profiles and is not used to target advertising at you.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety. If that ever happens, we will tell you unless we are legally forbidden from doing so.
Where your information goes
We operate from the United States, and our service providers process data in the United States and elsewhere. If you are in the EU, the UK, or another country with data transfer rules, your information is transferred to the US on the basis of the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which our providers have in place. Google, which we use for analytics only with your consent, additionally relies on its certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Google states that it does not log or store individual IP addresses of visitors from the EU, Switzerland or the UK, and that the location lookup is performed on European servers before the data reaches Analytics.
How long we keep things
- Purchase and tax records: 7 years, because US and California tax law requires it. If you delete your account, we keep the record of the sale but remove your email address from it.
- Your account and everything in it, including reflections, comments, workbook answers and progress: until you delete your account. Then it is gone immediately, not archived.
- Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe. One click, and the address is deleted, not flagged.
- Newsletter signups that are never confirmed: deleted after 30 days.
- Survey answers: 24 months.
- Analytics, if you consented: the two Google cookies expire six months after your last visit, which is the same length as the consent itself. The reports in Google Analytics are kept for no longer than 14 months and are then deleted.
- Security and error logs: 30 days.
- Rate-limiting records used to stop spam: less than one hour, and they never contain a readable email address or IP address.
Your rights, and how to actually use them
You have the right to get a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to take it elsewhere, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Most sites make you email someone and wait a month. You do not have to.
- To get a copy of everything we hold on you: sign in and use Download my data on your account page. It is immediate.
- To delete your account and your data: sign in and use Delete my account on your account page. It is immediate and permanent.
- To leave the newsletter: click Unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter email.
- To correct something, or for anything the buttons do not cover: write to us, and we will respond within 30 days.
Please read this before you delete your account: deleting it destroys any workbooks, videos or books you have purchased. You will not be able to get them back, and you would have to buy them again. We keep a record of the sale itself, with your email removed, because tax law requires us to. Everything else is permanently deleted.
We will never treat you differently, or charge you a different price, because you exercised any of these rights.
If you are in the EU or the UK
You have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. In Bulgaria that is the Commission for Personal Data Protection. You do not need our permission, and you do not need to contact us first, although we would appreciate the chance to put things right.
If you are in California
You have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Our analytics is configured with Google Signals and ad personalisation switched off, which is what keeps it out of that category, and it only runs at all for visitors who opted in. See Your California Privacy Choices for more.
Children
ChikaBebe is written for parents, carers and educators. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, write to us and we will delete it.
How we protect your information
Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Sign-in works by a link sent to your email, so we hold no password for you and there is no password to steal. Payment card numbers never touch our servers. Files you have paid for are stored privately and are only released after we check that your account is entitled to them. Access to the admin panel is limited to the site owner, and every action taken there is logged.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever suffer a breach that puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the relevant authority without undue delay, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, where it is significant, tell you by email. We will not quietly start collecting more than we do today.
Questions, corrections, or anything else about your privacy: contact@chikabebe.com.
We keep this policy honest and specific on purpose. If you find something here that does not match what the site actually does, please tell us. That is a bug.
